Oil and Acrylic Painter
Linda Spence Karaskevicus was born the fourth of eight children in Mulli ca Hill NJ. When she was 15 years old, her parents enrolled her in private classes wit h artist, Carolyn Smith. Smith quickly saw her unique talent and invited her to the 1966 Andrew Wyeth exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia PA. This event made a strong impression and her love for the arts and painting deepened. Later as a married woman and mother of three, she studied with accomplished artists, the late Narcissa Weatherbee of Woodbury, NJ and portrait artist Floyd Torbert of New Hope, PA. She continued her studies at Bucks County Community College in Newtown PA. She also attended classes at the University of the Arts of Philadelphia PA. There she gained valuable lessons in composition and color theory and subsequently refined her visual artistic talent. Her work can be found in private art collections in Bucks and Chester Counties in PA and the Carolinas. Linda has also served as President of the New Hope Art League, New Hope, PA (home of Pennsylvania Impressionism).
Although oil and acrylic portraits hold a special interest, she has recently found a passion for painting Carolina coastal scenes. Acrylics have allowed her to work faster resulting in a spontaneous brush or painting knife application. Her painting style is realistic with a touch of impressionism and post impressionism.
She has received numerous awards and is a member of the Waterway Art Association, Brunswick Art Council and the Art Association of Southport NC. Linda is Past President and Secretary of WAA. Recent group exhibitions include Sunset Vision of NC, Waterway Art Association in Calabash NC and Franklin Square Art Gallery’s Spring and juried Summer shows in Southport NC. Her work is currently on display at Sunset River Gallery, Calabash, NC
