Multi-Media Artist
Cutting up socks as a 4 year old to make dolls and tearing out the blank pages in encyclopedias for drawing paper led to creating life sized paper maché sculptures for our living room. I think we were the only family with a big paper Christmas tree. After a technical career in the Defense Department, I became a full time glass artist and have worked in glass for almost 24 years.
I use multiple mediums. Firing in kilns, I make fused glass plates, bowls, platters, and panels. I love sculpting in clay and casting the sculptures in glass. Left over pieces of glass led to mosaics. Experience with paper maché and clay led to making sculpted components for glass collage.Glass collage backgrounds are painted with acrylics, embellished with fused and cut glass components and found objects and finished with art resin.I also love making bead mosaics combined with found objects
I am inspired by the creation we inhabit and how it animates everything. A stone led me to create a fused glass bowl series that looked like water rushing over rocks! A curling ribbon inspired a whole series of glass bowls with wide open spaces and undulating ribbons of glass. The idea of other dimensions influences many of my glass collages.
