Kate Magill Walters has lived in Southport with her black lab PJ since January 2015. She was born in Chapel Hill, NC and her family would go to Holden Beach every summer. Already in love with the area, she and her husband decided to leave the west side of NYC for the sleepy coastal village of Southport. She continued to run her company that she started in 1999 booking stand up comedians, variety artists and a little music called Sophie K Entertainment.
In July of 2021, their dog PJ had a bad accident on the beach when he jumped up to catch a ball and landed wrong and he became paralyzed. He had surgery and now has feeling back in his lower half but is in a wheelchair. They go to rehab twice a week in the hope that he’ll learn to walk again.
In October of 2021, Kate’s husband John passed away suddenly so now it’s just the two of them. Kate takes long walks in the morning with her camera and you can usually find her at sunrise. Please say hello! Her work is currently available at the Artisans Gallery on Howe.
